Cornell Kid's Club The end of the school year is fast approaching and before we know it, summer will be here. There is no school on Monday, May 27th for Memorial Day. Friday, June 7th is the last day of school and it is also a half day (school is dismissed at 12:00). If you need after care on the last day of school, you will need to sign up for the half day. This is NOT an early release day. There is NO activity from 1:50-3:50 (other than after care). After care will be from 12:00-6:00 and your child does need to be signed up to attend. Punch cards cannot be used for a half day. Supersavers are already signed up for the half day. Please contact Margaret Smith if you need to sign your child up. The on-time deadline to sign up for the half day is May 17th. Late registrations (with late fee) will be accepted (space permitting) through Wednesday, May 29th. OKC SNACKS Please use door #8 when dropping off/picking up children from Kid's Club. This door is on the south end of the building and around to the back side of the building. This is the door that will be unlocked from 7:00-9:00 and 4:00-6:00 for before and after care. Please bring a photo ID when picking your child up from Kids Club. If we don't know you, we cannot release a child to you. We will check your name against the emergency card and then children can be released. If we don't know you and you don't have ID with you -- please expect to be asked to go get ID and return to Cornell when you have proof of who you are. We do this for the safety of your child. Thank you. Our staff to student ratio is different than it has been in the past. We used to have a 1:12 ratio and now we have a 1:15 ratio. This means that there will not be as much staff as in the past but we won't let that stop us from having just as much fun as we always have. Please remember to sign your child out of Kid's Club when picking him/her up from after care. We are required to have parents sign out their children with initials and the time. This only takes a moment and we would really appreciate it. Thanks!
The weather is getting warmer, but your children still need to come dressed in layers to go outside in after care. Jackets, sweatshirts or sweaters are a great idea this time of year. Send the appropriate outdoor clothing so the kids won't be too cold or too warm outside on the playground. We do go outside unless it is raining, below 10 degrees (with windchill) or above 96 degrees.
Please let us know when your child will not be attending after care. If we are expecting your child to be here and they don't show up - we need to locate them. If we cannot locate your child anywhere at Cornell, we will be calling you to make sure that your child is where they are supposed to be. Notes or messages sent from you to classroom teachers do not get passed on to us. Please send us an email or give us a quick call to let us know that your child will not be coming to after care. Our snack calendar is posted on the bulletin board outside of the keep room and on the refrigerator in the keep room. We will only offer alternate snacks for kids who have allergies. If you have a picky eater, please check the snack calendar and plan accordingly. We do not offer a snack during before care, except on rare occasions (maybe once a month). Please feel free to send a snack from home at any time. If you have any questions about before/after care, please feel free to email or call us and we will get back to you as soon as we are able. Before and after care staff are at Cornell from 6:45 - 9:00 A.M. and 3:00 - 6:00 P.M. Email sent to Christa Christiansen is checked at least twice a day - usually more than that. We check email at least once in the morning and at least once in the afternoon. Punchcard families - please feel free to call or email a request to use the punchcard - just remember to give us at least 24 hours notice. Also remember that we may have to deny your punchcard request if our child:staff ratio is not where it is supposed to be. Letting us know as soon as you know that you need care will help us with saying yes to your request. PUNCH CARD FAMILIES – if you plan on using before or after care with your punch card, you need to let us know at least 24 hours before you need care. If you need care on a Monday, please let us know by the Friday before by 6:00 P.M. You need to purchase the punch card from Okemos Community Education before you need to use it to give us time to pick it up. If you call on Tuesday morning and need care for that afternoon, we will have to say no. Our before and after care numbers are higher than they have been in a few years and we can’t hire anyone else unless we have consistently higher numbers, so staffing is tight.
