Helping Teens Manage Stress

* Don't demand perfection.  Just ask your child to do his or her best.

* Start a dialogue. Keep the lines of communication open.  Ask if your teen feels pressured or overwhelmed by schoolwork.

*Set a good example.  Model positive stress management strategies in your own life.

*Limit extracurricular activities.  Too many responsibilities can be overwhelming--and detract from academics.  Ask your child to choose just one or two extracurricularactivites during the school year.

*Encourage healthy habits.  Make sure your child exercises, eats healthy and gets enough sleep.

*Teach relaxation techniques.  Example include deep breathing, listening to music, or writing a journal.
